PORTO TORRES

BACK

This is a seaside resort on the Gulf of Asinara. It is a commercial and industrial town with a very busy port. Its ancient origins can be seen in the Roman ruins and in a remarkable Basilica which was built after 1000 AD. The Basilica is an important Medieval monument which houses a crypt and some Roman sarcophagus from the III and IV century. There is also an important embattled tower from the fourteenth century and the archaeological collection of Casa Pagliett. In the surrounding area there are the Roman ruins of the thermal baths, of a bridge and an aqueduct.
