This is a tourist centre of Saracen origin near the eastern coast of the Island in an area full of caves and
Nuraghi. It is famous for wine. In the surrounding area there is the Nuragic village of Serra Orrios, the
Tomb of the Giants of S'ena'e Thomes and the chasm of Ispingoli. The beautiful Cala Gonone which is a
seaside
resort and fishing port offers views of ciffs, caves and beaches which one can reach only by sea. Among the
caves there is the very famous cave of Bue Marino which is so called because there used to be a Monk Seal
who
lived there.
There is a wide range of handicrafts: jewellery, knives and cloth (it is one of the few centres on the
Island
which uses the oblique loom).
