DESULO

BACK

This is a mountain village. It rises on the west of Gennargentu and is surrounded by thick chestnut woods. Nowadays it is still possible to see some examples of the ancient rural shale buildings which have long wooden terraces that create in this village corners of evocative beauty. Moreover Desulo is one of the few Sardinian villages where the traditional costumes are still worn. Inside the ancient late-Gothic Parish Church of Sant'Antonio Abate, dating from the XV century, there is a beautiful wooden pulpit from the seventeenth century. In the other churches in this village there are other wooden sculptures. Wood carving, coarse woollen fabric weaving and baking cakes have a secular tradition. In the surrounding area there is the small rural church of the Madonna della Neve and the Nuraghe Ura'e Sole which is one of the highest Nuraghes on the Island. There is also the mountain refuge of S'Arena which has a ski lift.
