This is a famous rural festival which takes place within the large fence of "cumbessias" and "lollas" which encloses the Sanctuary of Santu Antine in Sedilo.
Ardia is one of the most ancient and evocative festivals in Sardinia. This is dedicated to Costantino, the Roman Emperor who was called Santu Antine but never canonised, and it celebrates his victory against Massenzio at Milvio bridge.
On the 6th and 7th July this feast reaches its climax with a spectacular and frantic horse-race called "S'Ardia". Along its particularly uneven route, there are horsemen from all over the Island dressed in their local traditional costumes.

The day before the festival a long procession accompanies the statue of S. Salvatore to the Sanctuary.
The day of the Festival, following a very evocative rite, hundreds of shoeless young people dressed in white run for 12 km to bring the statue back to the village. This rite evokes the saving of this statue which happened in the sixteenth century during a Barbary invasion.
